Habbakuk: A Burden, A Vision, and A Prayer

Habbakuk was a prophet in Babylon from 612-606 B.C. 

  1. His Burden
  • How can God seem to be so indifferent to our problems?
    • Habbakuk 1:1-4
  • How can God use such a wicked nation?
    • Habbakuk 1:12-17
  • God responds
    • Habbakuk 1:5-11

2.  His Vision

  • God: The just live by faith
  • God: The proud/wicked will be judged.
    • Habbakuk 2:2-20

3.  His Prayer

  • Request for God's action and mercy
  • Praise for past deliverance
  • Renewed expression of faith regardless of God's response to requests.
    • Habbakuk 3:1-19

4. Application

  • Our faith shoud be a shallow faith dependant on God giving us what we want.
  • Our "control" on our life is imagined.  Our life relies heavily on things over which we have no control.
  • When things go well, we must thank God and praise God.
  • When thigns go badly, we must thank God and praise God.
