Day After Day After Day!

DAY AFTER DAY AFTER DAY!!

Do you know people who live their lives in such a routine way that day after day after day, they do the same thing? Does this sound like anyone you know? Well, the alarm went off.  I got out of bed and got dressed. (Yawn) I ate breakfast, the same one I always eat. (Yawn) I went to the same job that I have been going to for many years. (Yawn) I greeted the same people at work I see and greet every day.  (Yawn) I ate the same lunch at the same place I visit every day. (Yawn) I drove home after work on the same route I take every day at the same time every day. (Yawn) I had the same dinner we have on this day of the week. (Yawn) I watched the same news report and the same television programs I watch every night after dinner. (Yawn) I got ready and went to bed at the same time I do every night. (Yawn) Tomorrow, I guess I will get up and do it all over again. (Yawn)

Sounds like a pretty exciting life, doesn’t it? The above paragraph describes the lifestyle of many people. They do the same things over and over without much thought. They move through life hardly observing what is going on around them. One day, they will wake up and realize the reality of their lives and wonder how did this happen. Their lives have been unfolding before their eyes, but they didn’t see it.

There was a day many years ago that was anything but routine. On that day, the Son of God, our Lord and Savior, was born into this world. (Luke 2:1-11) Shepherds were astounded to hear and see angels shouting the Savior’s birth. Astrologers were amazed to see a brilliant star in the sky. A Savior was born to save the lost from their sins. (Luke 19:10)

Another day that was not routine was the day the Savior went to the cross to die. (Luke 23:26-43) The people witnessed the sky grow dark during the daylight. Priests witnessed the curtain in the temple being torn from top to bottom. The perfect sacrifice died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. (2 Cor. 5:21)

Days later, another incredible day dawned. The Savior rose from the grave. (Luke 24:1-12) Women found the stone rolled back from the grave, they found the body of Jesus was gone, and they talked to angels. Everything that Jesus taught was now established by His resurrection. Everything that He proclaimed during His time on earth was now assured.

There is another day coming that will be anything but routine. There is a day coming in which this world will be burned up and everything in it will be melted with a fervent heat. (2 Peter 3:10-12) The great judgment will take place to separate the sheep from the goats. (Matt. 25:31-32)  On this day, we will be held accountable for the lives we have lived. (Acts 17:30-31)

Spend every day focusing on the hope of salvation and eternal life through Jesus Christ. Live every day in anticipation of eternal salvation. Live each day with meaningful direction and the ultimate purpose of serving the Lord. We need to look to God and walk with Him every day.   Written by Larry Schneider
