Making a Difference
“MAKING A DIFFERENCE”
An old man walked along a shore littered with thousands of starfish, beached and dying after a storm. A young man was picking them up and flinging them back into the ocean.
“Why do you bother?” The old man scoffed. “You’re not saving enough to make a difference.”
The young man picked up another starfish and sent it spinning back into the water. “Made a difference to that one,” he said.
We see dozens, perhaps hundreds of people everyday. How many of those might be as cast away as the starfish and dying without Christ. Do we acknowledge their presence, say “hello,” or “good day to you,” or if noticed, “may I be of help to you?” Politeness and a smile sometimes can solicit a conversation, particularly if you are sitting close together. Examples would be husbands waiting on a bench for wives to return from shopping, or two women looking at dresses and chatting.
You can make a difference every day. You have the ability
and the knowledge to bring someone to Christ. “Be strong and courageous. Open your eyes and look unto the fields! They are ripe unto harvest.” John 4:35
