What Happened So Quickly?

WHAT HAPPENED SO QUICKLY?”

I don’t know how many times I have heard this phrase repeated over the last several weeks. Watching the Indianapolis 500 on TV, I heard a driver remark, “Everything was going fine when suddenly the back end of the car whipped around and I lost control and crashed.” During the horrific shootings that have occurred over the last several days, people have said, “Everything happened so quickly.” During the night, someone gets up and falls in the dark and fractures a hip. It happened so quickly. A teenager stealing a quick look at his cell phone while driving crashes into a ditch. It happened so quickly. A mother ironing the clothes gets light-headed, has blurry vision, and falls to the floor suffering a stroke. It happened so quickly. A town devasted by a tornado, and the residents say, “It happened so quickly. It was over in 15-20 seconds.”

As I listened to these accounts, I couldn’t help but be reminded of what the apostle Paul said to the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 15:51-52. He said, “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye.” Paul was talking about the time when the Lord shall come again. He was telling them that their bodies would be changed from the corruptible body of earth into the incorruptible body of eternity. Paul tells us that this is all going to happen in a moment or so quickly that there will be no time to repent. Jesus tells us, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.”  Matthew 24:36

According to Jesus, things will be going on in the World just like normal. Someone will be driving to work as usual. Someone will be grocery shopping. Another may be taking the kids to ball practice. Many may be working in the yard, planting flowers, and working in their gardens. Some may be going to the doctor or dentist. We need to be prepared for the coming of the Lord. We need to be prepared for that “moment, in the twinkling of an eye.”  When Jesus comes again, it will happen so quickly that there will be no more time to make ourselves right with the Lord. “Behold, now is the accepted time: behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2 Do not wait any longer. Make yourself right with God before it is too late. Believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Confess His name before others. Repent of your sins. Be baptized and have your sins washed away. Arise a new creature in Christ and live your life for Him.   Written by Larry SchneiderWEh
