A Terrible Day!

“A TERRIBLE DAY!”

Have you ever had one of those days where you just feel that it was absolutely wasted? You tossed and turned all night, and your alarm did not go off as scheduled. You got out of bed in a bad mood. You spilled your morning coffee and burned your toast. You overflowed your cereal bowl with way too much milk. You tried to make the best of it and hurriedly checked your email before leaving for work and found a nasty message from someone who misunderstood what you said the day before. On your way to work, some drivers tested your patience by weaving in and out of traffic. They tested your reflexes by slowing and stopping unexpectedly. By the time you got to work, you were already exhausted and then everything really fell apart. You couldn’t seem to do anything right. Everyone was on you about everything, even those things that are not your responsibility. As the day drew to an end, you realized that you didn’t take any time for God that day. You forgot to pray before leaving home. You did not listen to your Bible in the car as you normally do. You never mentioned Christ to anyone, and you actually skipped the Bible study that had been set up for the lunch hour. As you consider your day, you begin to think that you are useless. You are not sure what the Lord sees in you.

As Christians, there are going to be some days that are better than others. We should never forget to trust in the Lord and lean upon Him for strength each day. We must pray, opening our hearts to the Lord and pour our thoughts and concerns out to Him. In 2 Timothy 2:21 we read, “Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”  We are reminded in I Thessalonians 5:17 that we should “Pray without ceasing.”

As you sank into your bed that night, you realized that God has blessed you with another day. You know that God loves you and will forgive you. You remember that Jesus died for you and that He cares for you. You know that the Lord is always there for you, if you will only reach out to Him. While it may have been a terrible day and a day in which you felt useless, you cannot forget that if the Lord wills, tomorrow will be another day. A new day with a new beginning, a new sunrise, and a new opportunity to put the Lord first in your life.
