It Means What It Says!

“It Means What It Says!”

Growing up, I remember my grandfather had a saying about what you could read in the newspaper or a book. He would often say, “It says what it means, and means what it says.”  He told me that too many times. We overthink statements or try to read meanings into the words that are not there. He said many times, “We just need to take it for what it says.” When it comes to the Word of God, that seems to be very good advice to follow.

The Bible is the inspired Word of God. All the evidence that points to this conclusion is solid and abundant. Look at the unity of the Word. The theme of redemption runs from Genesis to Revelation. The unity is found in a book that was written over many centuries and by many authors. Think about the factual accuracy of the Word: 1.  more and more archeological finds are confirming that people and places in the Bible are real  2. the scientific foreknowledge was written in the scriptures  years before telescopes and microscopes were invented  3. the many prophecies and their fulfillments mentioned in God’s Word. It has indeed been given and preserved by God.

As creatures with finite knowledge, how can we do anything other than just “take it for what it says!” When the Bible says He created the world in seven days, BELIEVE IT! When it tells us how he created woman from man, BELIEVE IT! When the Word tells us that life begins at conception in the womb, BELIEVE IT! When the Bible tells us that Jesus established only one church on earth, BELIEVE IT! When the Word says that only those who obey His Word will go to heaven, BELIEVE IT!

If I do not take the Bible for what it says, what does that say about me? Grandfather was right when it comes to God’s Word. It says what it means and means what it says! Do you believe that?  Written by Larry Schneider
