Have You Grown Any This Year?

“HAVE YOU GROWN ANY THIS YEAR?”

Undoubtedly, as we have gathered for family get-togethers over the last few weeks, you   have probably heard someone say something like, “Wow, you sure have grown this past year,” or perhaps someone said, “You have grown a lot since the last time I saw you.” Without exception, these statements are referring to the way our physical appearances changed during the last year.  We know that when we find the word “grow” in the dictionary it means “to come to maturity.” There are many ways one can grow over the year. We can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, intellectually, or the one most important to God, we can grow spiritually.

When we read through God’s Word, we learn that we are to grow spiritually every year.

I Peter 2:2 states, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby.”

2 Peter 3:18 tells us, “Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Paul writes in Ephesians 4:15, “But speaking the truth in love, we…may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.”

The book of Acts tells us and shows us how one becomes a Christian. The books of Romans through Jude tell us how to grow and be faithful. One’s growth in spiritual matters is important to Christ, others, and ourselves. Will you help the body of Christ grow spiritually next year?

Have you grown spiritually in the last year? Have you increased your knowledge of God’s Word over the past year? Do you sincerely desire the Word of God? Are you growing stronger in your understanding of God’s Word? If not, then set your mind to do better in the coming year. A new year of Bible classes begins in the coming weeks. Resolve that you will be at each and every Bible study next year. Plan to grow spiritually with us next year.

Be a “GROWER” in Christ and a “GOER” for Christ!
